Caravans are an essential part of many outdoor trips, however, it can be a bit of a struggle to fit a family into a high quality caravan that is also affordable. When traveling with family or a small group of people, you may want to consider using a 4 berth caravan that has bunk beds as this will offer enough sleeping space, yet still offer a decent amount of living space, especially in a compact size caravan. After spending some time researching a number of different caravan makes and ranges, I have compiled this list of the best 4 berth caravans that have bunk beds.
Here are the best 4 berth caravans I found that also have bunk beds:
- Elddis Avante 554 (2011)
- Sprite Freedom 6 TD (2016)
- Weinsberg CaraOne 400 LK (2021)
- Swift Challenger 530 (2016)
- Coachman Acadia 860 (2020)
All of these caravans have 4 berths and bunk beds, however, that is not all they have to offer. There are other great features to each of these caravans that make them worth investing in. I have looked deeper in to the features of these caravans to explore what really makes these specific caravans the best 4 berth caravans with bunk beds.
Elddis Avante 554 (2011)

The Elddis Avante 554 is an excellent 4 berth caravan that includes a bunk bed. these beds are what add to the spacious feel this caravan gives. Compared to the other caravans in the Elddis Avante range, this model has deeper lockers, longer beds and increased headroom which has improved the interior space with more room for living and luggage. The Elddis 2011 Avante range has often been called the perfect family caravan. Here are just some of the reasons why the Elddis Avante 554 is such a great 4 berth caravan:
- Storage space: This caravan features four berths, two of which are spacious fixed rear bunks, and a sizeable corner washroom which works well for families. One way that this design offers practical storage space is with its multi purpose storage unit/ dresser on the nearside. This is the perfect place for a TV with plenty of surface area left for food prep. In addition to this, the space throughout the caravan has been increased and made more user friendly with a 6’5″ headroom, and lockers that are 50% deeper than others within the range
- Spacious lounge: Thanks to the new panoramic sunroof and the range’s switch to a new lighter wood finish in 2011, the front lounge in the Elddis Avante 554 has a much more light and airy atmosphere to it than previous models. The soft furnishings and upholstery benefit from their high performance construction, and the lounge seating also has scatter and bolster cushions as standard.
- Well equipped kitchen: When it comes to the kitchen appliances on offer in the Elddis Avante 554, the domestic-style 110 litre fridge freezer fitted into the kitchen unit is very impressive for a caravan of this size. It also has a glossy black enamelled Aspire Mk2 oven, grill and dual-fuel hob with an 800W electric hotplate, three gas burners and spark ignition, which is well protected under a smoked glass lid that acts as an extra work surface when the hob is not in use.
For approximately £13,995, the Elddis Avante 554 is a fantastic caravan for a family or group. The design and layout means that up to 4 people can comfortably stay in the caravan without it caravan having to be big in size. One downfall of this model is that many users of this caravan have found that there is an evident lack of catches on the cupboards and drawers in the caravan which often causes them to open when the caravan is in motion.
Sprite Freedom 6 TD (2016)

Many caravan enthusiasts will most likely hold the Sprite brand in high regard due to their caravan being on of the most cheapest, lightest and least complicated model on the market. A lot of caravan buyers usually prefer the peace of mind that comes with such an easy and simple designed caravan. In the more recent models, the Sprite caravan have offered high quality feature such as alloy wheels and fully-fitted kitchens. The Sprite Freedom 6 TD is one of the most cheap and lightweight caravans which is why i have recommended it. It also has a number of other great qualities that stand out:
- Light and airy: A panoramic roof light has become an essential part of most modern caravans, in fact it can feel quite dark and gloomy without it due to the lack of natural lighting coming in. Although the Sprite Freedom 6 TD doesn’t include a panoramic roof light or any sort of big opening sunroof, its trademark single front window really does allow the daylight to flood in. The side windows are also quite large in size which further helps to keep the Sprite’s main living area bright and airy.
- High quality furnishing: The Sprite Freedom 6 TD is perfect for the juniors of the family. It has a quasi-pullman dinette in the corner that can accommodate up to three, and there’s a TV point alongside against the rear wall. Pull the concertina partition across, and you’re left with a self-contained playroom. It fits in perfectly with this caravan’s family friendly feel. In addition to this, the woodwork is of a high standard, with the soft furnishings that are just as comfortable to sit on as they are attractive to look at.
- Well equipped kitchen: This impressive caravan also has good quality kitchen with a three burner hob, a fridge with an in-built freezer, as well as a generous worktop provision and more cupboards and drawers than you get in the majority of caravans of this size.
At £14,495, the Sprite Freedom 6 is a great option for young families, especially with its well designed lounge that leaves enough play area for children. It has been very well designed and the high quality specification and smaller detail really pull this caravan together. The only part of this caravan that many people would agree needs improving, is that the fourth burner of the kitchen hob is blanked off and very difficult to use because of its odd design. However, the other three burners work extremely well and the rest of the kitchen is of high quality and offers a lot of space to work in.
Weinsberg CaraOne 400 LK (2022)

The Weinsberg CaraOne 400 LK is a robust yet lightweight caravan that is family-friendly and an excellent choice for first time caravan buyers. In previous years, the standard layout for a family-sized caravan was usually a front lounge, a central kitchen and washroom, and a rear single dinette with a fold-up bunk for night-time use. However this isn’t so popular among modern day families as most people prefer to save space with bunk beds. Weinberg’s family-orientated CaraOne 400 LK comes with fixed bunks at the rear to meet the needs of the modern family. here are some other impressive features of this caravan:
- Great storage: The storage options available in this caravan are quite impressive, especially in the lounge, with a huge overhead locker. It also includes a number of shelves on either side of the dinette, while the wardrobe is also very spacious, considering the size of the caravan. If anything, some might find that the kitchen has more limited capacity, however, in contrast the washroom storage space is great.
- Impressive lounge: The CaraOn 400 LK has a dinette-style lounge, with two facing settees and a sizeable clip-on table, where four people could dine comfortably. There are also a couple of corner spotlights, and a mains socket above the offside window. Another one of it popular features is the curtain that has been provided to partition off this area at night. There is also a large overhead locker which is very deep and provides an impressive amount of storage.
- Well equipped kitchen: Although the kitchen is quite compact in size, it’s very neatly planned. It has a combined oven and grill as well as a Dometic unit fridge and a three burner hob. There is also a large sink with a reasonable amount of worktop. One of the best feature of this kitchen is the twin LED downlight in the ceiling and the handy LED striplight which runs below the overhead locker, making this compact kitchen well lit during the night.
The Weinsberg CaraOne 400 LK costs around £18,102 and is good value for money. It is a well built family friendly caravan that is also lightweight and compact. As an entry-level model, the CaraOne 400 LK comes with gas only heating, from a fire housed in front of the wardrobe. There is also no microwave, and you don’t get a TV aerial. However, it’s a great option if you want a lightweight caravan for your family.
Swift Challenger 530 (2016)

The Swift Challenger 530 from 2016 has the option to have a full central heating system from Alde, or to stick with the standard Truma Combi 4. For many buyers, the Alde is the more attractive heating and hot water option, however this adds on extra weight to your vehicle, as well as adding an extra £740 to its price. Another great thing about this Challenger 530 model is the floor plan which has stood the test of time, and remained a classic for the past few years. Below are some other reasons why this is such a great 4 berth caravan with a bunk bed:
- Classic layout: This caravan has a layout that has been popular for decades, and still continues to prove itself popular because its front lounge, offside dinette, nearside kitchen, and full-width end washroom configuration which makes such good use of the space available. It’s also well known for its flexibility, which appeals to couples as well as families who would make good use of the bunk beds that can be created from the dinette seating.
- High quality interior: The Swift Challenger 530 uses the latest SMART+ body construction, which uses polyurethane rather than timber framing. The side walls have an aluminium exterior, however the front, rear, underfloor and roof are all GRP-clad. This impressive caravan also has flush-fitting windows which helps to keep things looking sleek, while aspects such as the wider gas locker door with three-point locking, rear fixing points for a bike rack, LED side-marker running lights, alloy wheels, fixed sunroof and more, are all very practical features.
- Spacious kitchen: For a 7m long caravan, the kitchen is surprisingly generous. It offers plenty of space and is very well equipped with Thetford’s Aspire 2 cooker on the left, and a circular granite-style sink to the right of the dual-fuel hob, while also leabing plenty of worktop space. Under the counter there is a 106-litre Dometic fridge and a good amount of storage with a drawer and locker, as well as three large overhead lockers and a flush-fitted microwave oven.
This impressive caravan is an amazing investment for around £19,140. It has many impressive features which it had to be included in this blog post. However, one aspect that some caravan users found to be downfall of this specific Challenger model was the small cutlery drawer in the kitchen, especially considering how spacious the kitchen is.
Coachman Acadia 860 (2020)

The Coachman Acadia 860 is the largest caravan in the 2020 Acadia range which replaces both the Vision and Pastiche ranges in the Coachman lineup. The styling of the Acadia is very familiar, with the twin front lockers and wide sunroof being first used on the 2018 VIP range and rolled out to the reintroduced Laser range for 2019. This caravan has some attractive layout features such as a front L-shaped lounge, mid U-shaped dinette opposite the kitchen and a rear French bed next to the washroom and wardrobe. I have looked at these features in more detail below:
- L-shaped lounge: The Acadia 860 feels like three separate rooms within a caravan. The lounge is a very comfortable place to relax and watch television, which can be placed on the sideboard located on the nearside where a window is fitted. This feature is often missing from most L-shaped lounges. In addition to this, the mid dinette is a good size, and as this a four berth, the dinette makes into a large single bed.
- Impressive kitchen: The kitchen includes a Theford oven and grill with a 3 gas burner and one electric hob. It also has a Russell Hobbs microwave, and a stainless steel Argent sink bowl which has a removable draining board. At the end of the kitchen unit is the table storage locker and the tall Dometic 133 litre fridge freezer. The work tops in this caravan are in ‘Glitter Bianca’ whilst roof lockers are finished in ‘Dove and Taupe’.
- Comfortable washroom: The washroom can be found alongside the bed with a layout that is similar to others caravans of this type. It features a mid Thetford Cassette toilet and the washroom basin is fitted near the door. The washroom is fitted with an opaque window with a blind and fly screen. There is also a heated towel rail which forms part of the Alde central heating system.
Overall, the Coachman Acadia 860 is a great 4 berth caravan with a bunk bed, especially fro its reasonable price of £27,905. The layout of this caravan works well as a luxury two berth or even as a family caravan. One downfall of this caravan however, it that the specification does not come fitted with Al-Ko ATC stability control or with any standard USB sockets, which is quite surprising considering it is a 2020 model.
