So let’s start from the top: which 6 berth caravan with a fixed double bed is best overall?

Best Overall

If money is no object, which 6 berth caravan with a fixed double bed is the best? Considering every factor, from layout to interior and space, which caravan would I recommend? The Buccaneer Aruba 2021 edition.

Buccaneer Aruba (2021)

The beautiful Buccaneer Aruba is a twin-axle 6 berth caravan that is, undoubtedly, the best 6 berth caravan with a fixed double bed. I would say this caravan is the epitome of luxury. This is an extremely luxurious caravan that’s the best in numerous ways, from the incredibly comfortable seating to the unparalleled kitchen.

Here’s everything that makes the Buccaneer Aruba the best:

  • Capacious, ultra-comfortable main lounge: The lounge in the Buccaneer Aruba is best described as special. Not only is it large, easily seating 6, but the soft furnishings are also extremely comfortable to sit and relax on. Furthermore, the manufacturer states the sofas are pet claw-resistant and have a wipe-clean finish. The Aruba is 8 foot wide (2.44 meters), meaning the lounge is certainly large enough for all to sit comfortably. Additionally, the lounge is extremely well-lit thanks to the 5 front windows and abundance of side and overhead lights.
  • Large, u-shaped side dinette: Opposite the kitchen, there is a large, u-shaped dinette. This means there’s plenty of space for all the family to sit and have a meal or play a board game together. It also means children and adults can sit separately. It goes without saying most parents want their own space – just as much as children want theirs!
  • Full, appliance-packed kitchen: The Aruba’s kitchen has everything you could possibly need or want – and probably more! The entire kitchen, including all appliances, is on the nearside of the caravan. This isn’t a big, life-changing feature but makes life easier. As well as an oven, grill, four-burner hob, and almost full-size fridge, the kitchen has copious amounts of storage and a microwave as standard. As well as three drawers under the sink, you’ll find four lockers overhead. It goes without saying that the kitchen’s finish is unparalleled, too!
  • Brilliant beds offering flexibility: The bed’s in the Buccaneer offer flexibility whilst a lot of caravans, especially those with a fixed double, leave a lot to desire. The front sofas can be used as two singles or one massive double, while the side dinette can be made up into a large double. If you have children or occasional guests, the versatility of this layout could be a key benefit. It’s also worth mentioning that no bed in the Aruba is less than 6 foot long. The fixed bed is 6 foot 3 inches long, the make up bed at the front is 6 foot 11 inches long, whereas the side dinette is 6 foot 1 inch long.

These are just the main benefits, of course. The Buccaneer Aruba also has a larger-than-average washroom for a caravan of its size with this layout. Also, it has plenty of storage in the form of wardrobes, overhead lockers, seat boxes, and a massive storage space under the fixed French bed. It goes without saying that you get what you pay for; splash out £35,000 on a caravan and you’ll get something special. And that’s what the Buccaneer Aruba is.

Best Considering Affordability

It would be absurd to think everyone has £35,000 to spend on a caravan such as the Buccaneer Aruba. Instead, the vast majority of people purchasing a caravan will want a more affordable tourer.

So which 6 berth caravan with a fixed double bed is best when considering affordability? Here, there are two caravans worth mentioning:

  • Bailey Pageant Loire S7 (2009): £8,895
  • Sprite Quattro EW (2014): £15,995

Here’s why I consider these caravans to be the best when considering affordability.

Bailey Pageant Loire S7 (2009)

The Bailey Pageant Loire Series 7. This image shows the large seating area at the front of the caravan, as well as the side dinette and sizeable kitchen.

The Bailey Pageant Loire Series 7 is an inexpensive twin-axle 6 berth caravan. Although it depends on where you look, you can usually pick this exact model up for around £8,500 – £9,000.

While this caravan doesn’t cost a fortune, it doesn’t feel incomplete or lacking. Rather, it feels like the perfect entry-level caravan for families getting into caravanning looking for a tourer with a fixed double bed. Here’s why I’d recommend the Pageant Loire S7 to those looking for a relatively inexpensive caravan.

First and foremost, it has plenty of seating. As well as the main seating area at the front of the caravan, the Loire S7 also has a side dinette. There’s more than enough comfortable seating for 6 people. Bailey are known for their high-quality, affordable entry-level tourers and this caravan’s no different. The seating is comfortable, with pleasant soft furnishings found throughout this model.

Secondly, the Loire S7 is impressively versatile when it comes to sleeping arrangements. As you know, there’s a fixed double within. But this caravan’s flexible because of the front lounge area and the side dinette. For young children, the front lounge can be used as two single beds, or one large double. Also, the side dinette transforms into bunk beds. Thanks to these options, the Loire S7 is ideal for a family with young children or a couple who occasionally have guests – as well as everyone in between!

Lastly, the Bailey Pageant Loire Series 7 has a sizeable kitchen for a caravan of this size. Most affordable, entry-level caravans of this size have small kitchens that don’t have an awful lot going for them. The same cannot be said of this caravan, as the kitchen is rather sizeable and has everything you need: a 4-burner hob, a combination grill and oven, a large fridge-freezer, and a microwave.

The only thing, in my opinion, that really holds back the Loire S7 is the washroom. If you’re bothered about having a caravan with a sizeable washroom, this isn’t the one for you. The washroom is typically small for a caravan of this size, with limited storage and no separate shower cubicle. And that’s where the Sprite Quattro EW comes in as one of the best inexpensive caravans…

Sprite Quattro EW (2014)

The rather unique main seating area that you’ll find in the Sprite Quattro EW (2014). Image: Wandahome.online

The twin-axle Sprite Quattro EW (2014) is an affordable 6 berth caravan with a fixed double bed. Although it costs more than the aforementioned Bailey Pageant Loire S7, it has several features that make it worthwhile adding to your budget and spending a little more.

You can usually find the Sprite Quattro EW for around £15,000 – £16,000, depending on the year of manufacture. The 2014 model is one of my favourites, and it’s often found for around £15,000. Moving on, what is it that sets this model apart and makes it one of the best affordable 6 berths with a fixed bed?

  • Unique L-shaped lounge area: You don’t often see the L-shaped seating area in many caravans these days. Whether this is a good thing or bad thing really depends on your opinion, but I believe the lounge area works well here. The lounge will comfortably seat 4 or 5 people, with one large settee across the nearside wall and a shorter one along the front of the caravan. There’s also a perch seat, perhaps ideal for a child or a guest who isn’t staying for a long time. I think this lounge area design is perfect for kicking back and relaxing in front of the TV.
  • Versatile sleeping arrangements: Again, this is a caravan that seems to pride itself of versatility. For instance, the L-shaped lounge can become a relatively large double bed, or the longer of the two sofas can be used as an occasional single bed. The side dinette converts into bunk beds suitable for young children, as needed. And of course, you have the large fixed double at the rear. In all honestly, I think this is best used as a 2 or 4 berth caravan. It’s perfect for couples and also ideal for families with young children.
  • Sizeable end washroom: As I said, the biggest drawback of the last caravan I mentioned was the poor washroom, with a toilet and shower crammed into a small cubicle. The Sprite Quattro EW has a much larger washroom with a swivel toilet and a separate shower cubicle. As far as I’m concerned, this benefit alone makes this one of the best options for people looking to purchase a tourer on a budget.

For £15,000 or a little more, I really don’t think you can go wrong with a 2014 Spite Quattro EW. To be honest, I think it’s worth your money for the end washroom and relatively spacious L-shaped lounge alone. Between this and the Bailey Pageant Loire Series 7, you have two very affordable yet impressive caravans to choose.

Best Lightweight (Under 1500kg)

If you have a tow car with a relatively low towing capacity or your driving licence limits the weights you can tow, there are still 6 berth caravans out there with fixed double beds to choose from.

One of my favourite caravans weighing under 1500kg with a fixed double bed is the Bailey Orion 530-6. Bailey always tend to be the best when it comes to making brilliant lightweight caravans and the Orion 530-6 is one of their best in my opinion. Here’s why this is such a good lightweight 6 berth with a fixed double.

Bailey Orion 530-6

The Bailey Orion 530-6 is a lightweight 6 berth caravan with a fixed double bed. This is one of the lightest 6 berth caravans available. The Orion 530-6 has a MiRO of 1205kg and a MTPLM of 1380kg.

Sometimes lightweight caravans aren’t the best, because cuts are made to bring the weight down. However, the Orion 530-6 is a brilliant lightweight family caravan. Here’s why this caravan is so good.

  • Versatility in the sleeping department: The Orion 530-6 is quite adaptable to your requirements, which is surprising for a caravan of this size. This is primarily a family caravan, but there is some choice when it comes to sleeping arrangements that makes it perfect for a small family that have occasional guests. For example, at the front of the caravan there is a large seating area that can be used as two single beds. Alternatively, this seating area can become a large double. There is also a side dinette, which can become bunk beds. I would say this is the ideal caravan for for a family of four, two adults and two young children, who have the occasional guests.
  • Attractive interior: The interior of the Orion 530-6 is very appealing. The soft furnishings throughout look great and are comfortable. Furthermore, the wood effect throughout the caravan is very easy on the eye. I think this is a really good looking caravan, especially when you consider the price tag of around £12,000.
  • Plenty of storage: There’s an awful lot of storage in the Orion 530-6. The fixed bed really helps here, as there is plenty of room to store belongings under the bed. There is a large wardrobe for storing things such as games and clothing. There’s also storage under the sofa. And there are overhead lockers throughout the caravan, so there’s plenty of storage to make the most of here.

The Bailey Orion 530-6 is certainly one of the very best lightweight 6 berth caravans with a fixed double bed. However, I wouldn’t particularly recommend it unless having a lightweight caravan is really important to you. As with any lightweight caravan, there were evidently certain decisions made during the design process to reduce the weight of this unit. For example, the bathroom is particularly small and really not ideal for a family of 6. Furthermore, the kitchen is relatively small despite having everything that you need.

Regardless, this is still the best caravan available if you want a lightweight 6 berth with a fixed double bed.
