Buccaneer Weights (Updated For 2021)

It’s really important to know the weight of your caravan for numerous reasons. However, the information that you need is often hard to come by. That’s why I’ve written this blog post, to pull all the Buccaneer caravan weights into one place.

You must know the weight of your caravan for numerous reasons. The primary reason to find out the weight of your caravan is to make sure you can tow it on your license. Depending on when you gained your driving license, some caravan might be too heavy to tow legally. Furthermore, it’s crucial to find out whether your car is capable of towing the caravan you’re looking at. You can read more about figuring out which caravans you can tow in my blog post What Size Caravan Can I Tow?

I have included three important weight-related pieces of information for each caravan in this blog post: MiRO, MTPLM, and user payload. Briefly, here’s what each of these means:

  • MiRO: MiRO, or MRO, stands for Mass iRunning Order. The MiRO of your caravan is the weight of the caravan as it leaves the factory in its standard form. This number counts everything included as standard, such as all the appliances that the caravan comes equipped with.
  • MTPLM: MTPLM stands for Maximum Technically Permissable Laden Mass. The MTPLM is the maximum weight of your caravan including the user payload.
  • User payload: The user payload is the difference between the Mass in Running Order and the Maximum Technically Permissable Laden Mass of your caravan. It’s the maximum weight that can be added to your caravan, so it’s important to keep an eye on this one and ensure you don’t overload your caravan. Please note also that any extras you have added to your caravan will eat into the user payload and are not added into the MiRO figure.

To make your life easier, this blog post compiles the MiROs, MTPLMs, and user payload for all of the following Buccaneer caravans (updated for 2021). Select your caravan from the list below to be taken to the weights for your tourer:

Here’s a brief look at the Buccaneer Aruba, including some of the pros and cons of this model:

Pros
  • Fantastic lounge
  • Versatile layout
  • Fixed double bed
  • Sizeable corner bathroom
Cons
  • Big price tag
  • Heavy
  • Fantastic lounge: The lounge of the Buccaneer Aruba is one of the largest and most comfortable of any caravan. The lounge is large enough to seat the entire family. At night, the sofas are sizeable enough to be used as either two singles or one gargantuan double.
  • Versatile layout: The Aruba’s layout is rather versatile, suitable for families or friends travelling together. At the front, you have the lounge which can be used as two singles or a large double. Then you have the wraparound dinette which becomes another large double. At the rear, you have the fixed double. This is a very versatile layout.
  • Fixed double bed: The fixed double bed is always an advantage, as it means you can get straight into bed without messing around making one up. Further, it offers you a massive storage space underneath.
  • Sizeable corner bathroom: Corner bathrooms are often a bit of a disappointment and a little on the small side. However, the corner washroom here is excellent and certainly good enough for 6.

Buccaneer Commodore (2021) Weights

The Buccaneer Commodore, an 8 foot wide 4 berth caravan. This twin-axle is one of the heaviest 4 berth caravans you can buy, but that’s because it’s a high-spec tourer. Image: Elddis.co.uk

Here’s a brief look at the Buccaneer Commodore, including some of the pros and cons of this model:

Pros
  • Fixed double bed
  • Large kitchen
  • Excellent lounge
Cons
    • Fixed double bed: The fixed double bed along the nearside wall is an excellent feature in this caravan. First and foremost, it means you can get straight into bed rather than messing about having to make your bed up. But secondly, the fixed double has a large storage space underneath where you can store large possessions easily.
    • Large kitchen: The high-spec kitchen in the Buccaneer Commodore is very large, with plenty of worktop space to use. Most will find very little to complain about with this kitchen simply because it is so sizeable.
    • Excellent lounge: The lounge in the Buccaneer Commodore is comfortable and sizeable, which are undoubtedly the two main qualities that you want from a lounge.

Here’s a brief look at the Buccaneer Cruiser, including some of the pros and cons of this model:

    Pros
    • Large, comfortable lounge
    • High-spec kitchen
    • Fixed double
    • Full-width rear washroom
    Cons
      • Large, comfortable lounge: There are a lot of undisputable benefits of this caravan. However, one of the best features has to be the large, comfortable lounge. The beautifully upholstered sofas are extremely comfortable, but they’re also large enough for this caravan’s four residents to relax in comfort.
      • High-spec kitchen: Like all the Buccaneer kitchens, the kitchen in the Cruiser is remarkably high-spec and one of the best that you will find in a tourer. The kitchen contains everything that you could possibly need and some of the finest equipment that you will find in a caravan. Furthermore, there’s plenty of worktop space in the Cruiser so you can make meals for 4 with ease.
      • Fixed double: The fixed double here is an excellent feature, saving you the trouble of having to make up your main bed when it comes to bedtime. This bed also retracts, creating a daybed and giving you more floor space.
      • Full-width rear washroom: The Cruiser features a full-width rear washroom; one of my favourite features of this caravan. The washroom features a fully-lined, LED-lit shower cubicle, as well as a toilet and a sink.

Here’s a brief look at the Buccaneer Barracuda, including some of the pros and cons of this model:

      Pros
      • Fixed double bed
      • Large lounge with dedicated entertainment centre
      • Sizeable kitchen
      Cons
        • Fixed double bed: The Buccaneer Barracuda contains a fixed double bed, which I always consider to be a big advantage. It means there’s no hassle at bedtime when it comes to getting your main bed ready. The fixed bed in the Barracuda actually retracts into a daybed, giving you more floor space throughout the day.
        • Large lounge with dedicated entertainment centre: The Buccaneer Barracuda has a large L-shaped lounge with more than enough seating for the 4 people this caravan is designed for. There’s plenty of seating for everyone to relax in comfort and enjoy the excellent entertainment centre that comes as standard in the Barracuda.
        • Sizeable kitchen: A sizeable kitchen is a great feature in any caravan, particularly if you plan to be cooking every night during your holiday. The kitchen in the Buccaneer Barracuda is both large and high-spec. In fact, it is one of the very best kitchens that you’ll find in any caravan.

        Buccaneer Bermuda (2021) Weights

The Buccaneer Bermuda is a capacious high-spec 4 berth caravan. This is one of the largest 4 berth caravans that money can buy and one of its key features is the massive L-shaped lounge with dedicated entertainment centre. Image: Elddis.co.uk

Here’s a brief look at the Buccaneer Bermuda, including some of the pros and cons of this model:

        Pros
        • Large lounge with entertainment centre
        • Rear bedroom with large double bed
        • Mid-caravan washroom with separate toilet and shower cubicle
        Cons
          • Large lounge with entertainment centre: The Buccaneer Bermuda features a large L-shaped lounge with an entertainment centre. The entertainment centre features a 32″ TV, which comes as standard. This really is the perfect lounge for the family to kick back and relax in.
          • Rear bedroom with large double bed: The Buccaneer Bermuda features a rear bedroom with a large double bed. Adjacent are the washroom facilities, which can act as a family bathroom or en-suite facilities depending on who is using the caravan. The large double bed can retract throughout the day, giving you more floor space should you need it.
          • Mid-caravan washroom with separate toilet and shower cubicle: The Buccaneer Bermuda features a mid-caravan washroom with separate toilet and shower cubicles. Having separate cubicles for these is a good idea in my opinion. It means that both of these facilities can be in use at the same time, which is pretty important when you have 4 people sharing a caravan.
